Have you ever wondered, “How do I create a website for my business?” or “How do I create a website for free?” I’m about to show you a nifty little tutorial on how to create your very own website that won’t cost you anything.
But first, I’d like to talk about WordPress. Time and time again, I’ve heard WordPress touted as the number one place to go when you’re just starting out building a website.
Sure, you could go directly to the WordPress website and create a free website for your business, but you may want to take some things into consideration before you do that.
WordPress does not tell you what pages and posts you need. It’s there to let you create whatever you feel fit. It is advisable that you learn at least some coding before you get started.
Or at least get vaguely familiar with plugins because without any coding knowledge or plugins, it’s going to be a very bland looking website.
I don’t know about you but if I was just starting out and I had no clue what I was doing, I would want some instructions. That’s where Siterubix comes in.
SiteRubix Website Builder
Where to get it: www.siterubix.com
Who created it: Kyle Loudoun & Carson Lim
How much it costs: $0
My rating: 9.3 out of 10 stars
Powered by the Wealthy Affiliate training platform, SiteRubix is there to help you create a website step-by-step. SiteRubix is not a CMS (content management system). Rather, it uses WordPress as its CMS, so you get the best of both worlds.
You get to choose between thousands of visually appealing WordPress themes that don’t cost anything. You also have access to over 36,000 WordPress plugins to enhance your website.
(For example, if you want your website to have an interactive map or a shopping cart to assist in the checkout process, you’d need to install plugins.)
With the Wealthy Affiliate community looking out for you, you’ll never have to quit just because you hit a stumbling block. I run into problems from time to time while working on my website.
That’s OK because all I have to do is post a question, and the community answers me in less than an hour. From coding to keywords to general feedback, I get very fast, very solid website advice whenever I need it.
So there you have it- using WordPress as your content management system gives you the freedom to create the website that best meets your needs, and Wealthy Affiliate is there to guide you through the process.
Four Steps to Creating Your Website
Earlier, I promised I would give you a tutorial on how to create a website that won’t cost anything. Here goes!
Let’s just say that your name is Johnny and you want to start a Unicorn Emporium. I don’t know what a Unicorn Emporium is, but for all intents and purposes we’ll say you sell unicorn themed merchandise like sweaters, blankets, and figurines.
Step 1) Go to the search bar in the middle of the page and type in the name of your business. Well, would you look at that? Johnnysunicornemporium.siterubix.com is available! Cool.
If your domain name (i.e., what you just typed into the box) is unavailable, you’ll see the word “Unavailable” in red in the box to the right of the search bar. No need to worry about accidentally selecting a name that is already taken.
Step 2) Click “Build My Free Website” and you’ll be directed the website builder page. It’s going to say, “Step 1, what kind of website do you want to build?” You should see the domain name already typed into the box on the Free Website side.
Don’t worry about the “On a Domain I Own” part. That’s a tutorial for another day. Just look at the “Step 2, Name your website” box. Going along with our unicorn merchandise store scenario, I have typed in Johnny’s Unicorn Emporium.
If having a name like “johnnysunicornemporium.siterubix.com” isn’t your thing, you can always buy a domain name later. That way, you’re looking at “johnnysunicornemporium.com.”
You won’t have to start over. The website will transfer over and look the same, except you’ll own it and the name will look a lot cleaner.
Step 3) The fun part! You can choose from over 2,000 free themes. If you discover later that your theme doesn’t do your website justice, have no fear- you can always change themes.
You get to customize the images, fonts, and placement of various elements of your website, so don’t get too hung up if you can’t find a theme that looks EXACTLY how you imagined your homepage looking.
Step 4) Hit the button that says, “I’m Ready, Build My Website Now!” and do a little victory dance because you just created your very own website for free.
A message will pop up on your screen that says something to the effect of “Hold Tight” or “Hang On.” That’s perfectly normal because the website takes a minute or so to load. You won’t be directed to the new website straight away; once it’s done loading, you should instead see a dashboard with your admin details.
Tools and Training
Technically you have a website, but what do you do now? What kinds of pages and posts should you have? That’s where training comes in, and this is the biggest reason you should join SiteRubix.
SiteRubix will give you ten free lessons to get that website up and rolling. These lessons cover a variety of useful topics, such as quality content writing, website functionality, and understanding how people make money online.
I’m not a big fan of homework, and the training did not feel like homework at all to me. I thought each lesson was fun and legitimately useful. No fluff or filler here!
As I mentioned before, if you feel like you need help with lessons or your website in general, you’ve got a community of thousands of people who can answer your questions and point you in the right direction. Wealthy Affiliate is awesome.
Pros of Joining
- Websites are created in four simple steps.
- SiteRubix uses WordPress as its content management system.
- Access to over 2,000 free, visually appealing themes.
- A wide selection of plugins (over 36,000!) to make your website do just about anything.
- You don’t have to know how to code.
- Two free SiteRubix websites. When you’re starting out, that’s all you really need. You can upgrade later to get 25 freebies and 25 websites on your own domain.
- Member support is excellent. On the odd occasion that my website is down or having other problems, I can submit a support ticket and the problem gets fixed the same day.
- You can get help from the Wealthy Affiliate community with the questions you are going to have along the way.
- Hosting is free, fast, and secure. Your website is protected from viruses, malware, spyware, hacking, and other unpleasant security issues.
- Your website is backed up once a day, so if you need to revert to an earlier version, you can do so easily.
Cons of Joining
- Only two free websites until you upgrade. Note: you can upgrade later to get 25 free websites and 25 websites on a domain you own.
- Your free websites will appear as a sub-domain of SiteRubix. What does that mean? Instead of johnnysunicornemporium.com, it will say johnnysunicornemporium.siterubix.com. This isn’t usually a problem, though, because people still trust and buy from websites that use sub-domain names.
Some Final Thoughts
If you’ve never created a website before, or you have but weren’t successful in running it, SiteRubix is the solution you’ve been looking for. Just four simple steps and your website is live.
The training makes all the difference in the world. Ten lessons will teach you a good foundation on which to build your website so you can start off with a solid understanding of how to write quality content, what you need to have a functional website, and how you’re going to make money.
With the availability of help and member support, combined with free hosting, why not? It won’t cost you anything to get this website up and going. SiteRubix is the first website builder I’d recommend to anyone who is looking to launch a website for a business.
